Vineyard Notes
The fruit for this micro-production Tempranillo comes from the highly regarded “Rancho Chimiles” vineyard in southeast Napa County. Tempranillo is one of the most rare wine grape varietals in California, representing not even half of a percent of total wine grape plantings. Rolando has always been fascinated by the characteristics of this old-world varietal and enjoys the opportunity to create something out of the ordinary exclusively for the Mi Sueño familia.
Production Notes
The 2013 growing season proved to be an excellent year in Napa Valley. It was slightly warmer than 2012, resulting in an overall earlier growing season. Lower than normal rainfall paired with moderate spring weather brought early bud break and bloom. Sunny skies throughout the summer months led to early veraison and harvest. Warm daytime temperatures followed by cool nights prior to harvest produced evenly ripened fruit with ideal hang time.
Tasting Notes
This Tempranillo has a powerful aroma of dark chocolate with hints of licorice, black pepper, dark cherries, and figs. Rich, earthy minerality comes through on the palate with ripe cherry and raspberry. This wine has excellent structure, with strong but balanced tannins, and will age impeccably.
Food Pairing Notes
This is a wine worthy of a fiesta! Cook up a batch of beef tamales and fire up the grill for marinated lamb and sausage-and-rice stuffed peppers.
